God of love

But do you know that God is a God of hate, too!

Our God is a God of love. Everyone has heard this. 1 John 4:8 says: Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.

So God is love. That is, He is so full of love that He is the very ocean of mercy. When you pray to Him earnestly, he listens.

But do you know that God is a God of hate, too!

He hates sin.

After six days Jesus took with Him Peter, James and John the brother of James, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. There He was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and His clothes became as white as the light. Just then there appeared before them Moses and Elijah, talking with Jesus. (Matthew 17:1-3)

I turned around to see the voice that was speaking to me. And when I turned I saw seven golden lampstands, and among the lampstands was someone like a son of man, dressed in a robe reaching down to his feet and with a golden sash around his chest. The hair on his head was white like wool, as white as snow, and his eyes were like blazing fire. (Revelation 1:12-14)

In the above verses white is the colour associated with the Most High, which shows His purity. And His purity is beyond imagination. We, in our fallen state, can never comprehend His purity or His great unconditional love.

God is so full of light that darkness cannot touch Him. In our sinful state we cannot even think of approaching Him. Infact, the sin in us renders us almost invisible to His eyes. We can shout all we want, but our sin will not allow us to be heard by Him.

Yes, God abhors sin. So much so that He could destroy you for it. No wonder people keep saying that the God of the Old Testament is a cruel God.

But look at the grace of the Almighty. Two thousand years ago He did something which we find simply incredible. It is too hard to believe, yet this is what happened. We have reliable witnesses. The just God left all his heavenly abode and came down to this earth and He took all the punishment that we rightly deserved upon Himself. Why? So that when we call out to Him - even in a whisper - He can hear us.
